South Charleston is a village in Clark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,861 at the 2010 census. Like many other rural towns in Ohio’s Miami Valley region, the town was founded in the 1790s by New England settlers moving into the area after the American Revolution.
The town was originally named South Bloomfield, but changed its name to South Charleston in 1803 after a prominent citizen named Thomas Charleston. South Charleston was built on land owned by Thomas Bullitt and William Byrd, who donated part of it for a courthouse square.
